Fee options

We understand that employers may perceive the costs of instructing a solicitor to be daunting. We have therefore developed a range of funding options for the employer to give our clients access to the legal advice they need whilst at the same time offering financial peace of mind.

We can offer a range of "pay as you go" hourly rates, retainer fees tailored to your business needs that can be purchased for on going employment advice or in certain circumstances fixed fees or capped fees.

Hourly Rates and Fixed Fee Advice

We can offer a range of competitive hourly rates to clients for ad hoc advice.

In certain circumstance we can agree a fixed fee in advance for specific written advices or drafting of documents.

Retainer Fees

Our retainer scheme provides clients with access to a direct helpline for ad hoc advice directly from our employment team. We will always be available throughout the normal office hours to advise you on any HR issue arising. Our retainer fees are flexible and provide clients with an agreed fixed employment law spend for the year for an agreed number of hours. The cost of the retainer fee is split into fixed monthly instalments. Any time left over is automatically carried over to the next month. No time is carried over at the end of the 12 month period. In addition to this, should you go over the cost of the retainer, you have the added comfort of an agreed discount on hourly charge out rates for the team and of all fees over the agreed figure for the remainder of the year.

The retainer fee offers many benefits including:

  • Telephone "helpline"
  • Quarterly newsletter
  • Regular e-mail updates
  • Annual review of all contracts of employment
  • Discount on the team's standard hourly fees

Capped / Fixed fee tribunal representation

Due to the potential for spiralling costs in Employment Tribunal claims, we may be able to offer fixed fees for certain claims. Under this scheme, you will be given a capped figure for the work, up to and including representation at the final hearing. This will assist in budgeting and a cost/benefit analysis when considering settlement. A full review of the case and a risk assessment will need to be undertaken in advance of any agreement to act under this arrangement. For further information on fees and services please contact Jo Cullen the Employment Partner on employment@howell-jones.com or 020 8549 5186.
