Probate and administration of estates

Death is one of life’s certainties.  We handle the winding up of the affairs of the deceased, in accordance with the terms of the Will or the rules of intestacy, where there is no Will.  It is our rôle to do so sensitively, tactfully and efficiently.

Our job is to assist the personal representatives (in the case of a Will, the executors, otherwise the administrators) collect the assets, pay the debts, agree and pay taxes,  and distribute the balance appropriately.

We can advise on potential ways to save inheritance tax even after the death has occurred.

Sometimes people are unreasonably excluded from Wills or there is a dispute over a Will or Estate.  These elements are handled by our Dispute Resolution Team who are experienced with contentious probate matters, whether this be challenging/defending the validity of a will or making/opposing a claim against an Estate.

Our clients say...

It is a delight to work with someone who really does appreciate not only what I'm going through but also what I want to achieve, yet manages to stay sympathetic, empathetic and totally professional - something I've come to get very used to in my dealings with Howell-Jones. "
