Break clauses in commercial leases – have they become easier to use? Our commercial property lawyers investigate

Tenants have returned to the high streets and office parks in good numbers this autumn, but many remain cautious about taking on a long term commitment in the form of a five or ten year lease. A break clause is often included in a lease which allows a tenant to end the lease early if the premises no longer suit its needs in a few years time. To be valid the law and often the lease sets out strict requirements as to the formation and wording of the notice required to be given by the tenant to the landlord.

Injured at work - HSE fines company for lack of planning - our personal injury lawyers explain

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has reported that a company has been fined and ordered to pay costs after a worker was injured after being struck by a falling piece of a mock log cabin set. The section of the scenery (which was being used for the West End show “The Bodyguard”) fell from a forklift truck and pinned the worker to the ground. The worker suffered leg fractures and a fractured skull.
