Starting a new job? - what you should be looking out for in an employment contract


Most employers will provide you with a contract of employment and it is important to make sure that it reflects what you have agreed. You should therefore ask for the draft terms as soon as possible and ideally before you start your new role. This will allow you time to consider the terms offered and negotiate on any terms missing or needing amendment. You should also review the terms of any staff handbook or company policies and procedures, particularly those referenced within the contract.

Will I have to sell my house to pay for future care?


If you need to move into a publicly funded care home then you will be financially assessed to work out whether and how much you need to contribute towards the cost of your care. On average the cost of residential care in England is £700 per week and nursing care is more. The cost varies in different areas of England and in Surrey, for example, it is not unusual to see the cost in excess of £1000 per week.
