Employer to pay for depressed employee's private counselling – a recent case on reasonable adjustment is discussed by our employment lawyers


An employee suffered work related stress when her responsibilities increased. Her employer referred her to a clinical psychiatrist who recommended private counselling. The Employment Appeals Tribunal decided that in not paying for the private psychiatric counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy, the Employer had breached its duty to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.
