Government changes qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims.

 The Government has announced that the qualifying period for the right to claim unfair dismissal will be extended from one to two years on 6 April 2012.  The Government anticipates that this change could save £6 million a year for British business and reduce the number of Employment Tribunal claims. 

 The changes announced to the unfair dismissal rules follow a consultation on “Resolving Workplace Disputes” which was published in January this year.
