Child support calculation changes - our family solicitors explain

Changes in the way that Child Support is calculated have been introduced and are now based on the gross income of the non-resident parent which is provided direct by HMRC to the Child Maintenance Service.

Fees apply to assessments of maintenance dealt with by the service and it is always better to try and agree a figure based on the guidelines to avoid the need to involve the Child Maintenance Service. There is a fee if maintenance is assessed and calculated by the service but then dealt with between yourselves but percentage fees apply if the service is used to collect the payments which affect both the payer and the payee.
