The Government has shortlisted 29 areas that are aiming to be one of the first 10 flagship housing zones in England (outside London) and a further 20 zones within London.
Those areas on the shortlist outside of London, which are successful in becoming the chosen housing zones, are promised access to £200m that has been set aside to help with necessary infrastructure and remediation works. The selected 10 areas will be targeted to develop 200,000 new homes on brownfield sites, and are areas where councils and developers will work together.
Inside London a further 20 housing zones will also be created with access to £400m. It is expected to create an additional 50,000 homes over 10 years.
