Can't take it with you -recently broadcast by the BBC

18 March 2011

For many people, thinking about their own death is difficult and emotional.  Even if you have made a will, it can be harder for the people who survive you if they consider your will to be unfair.

This recent BBC series focused on two new couples each programme and reviewed their circumstances and a dilemma concerning their wishes for their wills.  To avoid surprises on death the whole family was encouraged to have a round table discussion of the dilemmas.  This enabled the couples to sign their wills having considered the views of the people who would be affected by their wills.

We offer a holistic approach to preparing wills.  We recommend our clients openly discuss any dilemmas concerning their wishes for their will with the people affected by their will.  We also offer solutions, which clients have often not considered.

We have to be careful to ensure that our clients are not unduly influenced by others.  If they are then the will may be invalid in whole or in part.  It is our job to take steps to avoid this happening and that the wills we prepare reflect our clients' wishes and that the will will has the necessary legal mechanics to brng those wishes into effect.
