Children and the Courts

07 July 2011

The Department for Education has published a new report stating that 1 out of 10 parents who separate or divorce require the Courts’ involvement in making arrangements for contact with their children.

Contact is considered the right of the child, rather than the right of the parents.  When a relationship breaks down, it is common for disputes to arise in respect of the children, such as where they should, and how often they see each parent.   It is of course preferable for such disputes to be resolved amicably through discussion, negotiation through solicitors, mediation or the collaborative process, rather than through the Courts.

If you would like to discuss arrangements relating to children, or any other aspects of family law, then please contact one of our Family Team direct.
