Compensation for worker who injured his eye at work
14 April 2011
Our client worked as a warehouse assistant for a joinery company. He was cutting wood using a machine when one of his colleagues snapped a piece of timber over his knee causing a piece of wood to fly into our client’s eye, splitting his pupil. Our client required two operations and continues to suffer from problems with his eye.
It was common practice within the warehouse for workers not to wear protective goggles and the managers did not ask the workers to do so.
We advised our client that his employer was responsible for the accident as they failed to provide him with a safe system of work and competent colleagues to work with and the employer admitted liability for the accident. We negotiated a settlement for our client to include compensation for the pain and suffering and past and future losses.
