Concerns over care given to the elderly in their own homes
24 November 2011
The BBC News website has reported that a review carried out by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found that the basic care given to the elderly in their own homes is so bad that it can, at times, breach human rights.
BBC News reports that complaints included older people not given support to eat and drink, neglect, financial abuse, disregard for privacy and dignity, patronising behaviour and physical abuse.
It is not just home care that has been found to be poor. We have previously reported that following an investigation carried out in 2010, the Health Service Ombudsman found that patients over the age of 65 have suffered unnecessary pain, neglect and distress while receiving treatment under the NHS.
If you or a family member has been injured as a result of poor care given at home, in a care home or in Hospital, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact our Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team today for a telephone conversation or a free, preliminary meeting.
