Health and Safety Executive fine school after caretaker is injured

01 August 2011

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has reported that a school has been fined and ordered to pay costs after a school caretaker suffered broken ribs and a broken arm after falling 1.9 metres to the ground.

The HSE found that the school had failed to take suitable and sufficient measures to prevent the caretaker from falling from height.  The HSE said the accident could have been avoided if the school had provided an appropriate platform on which the caretaker could work.
