Litigation - social media risks

06 January 2012

The Ponemon Institute in the US has published a survey highlighting the risks posed by social media.  The threats identified include brand hijacking and lack of control over content.  The survey also makes it clear that social media can play an important role in building greater brand awareness and enhancing the image of companies.

We support use of the web and social media, but with correct controls.  Our Litigation Team advises on a multitude of intellectual property issues including copyright, passing off etc.  This now increasingly involves breaches occurring via social media sites and the web.  It was only in December that we advised, in detail, on a cybersquatting case.

Should you wish to discuss any element of intellectual property law, including social media and the web, please feel free to contact our Litigation Team for a free exploratory conversation.
