Murray Mount closed due to “health and safety concerns”
24 June 2011
The Guardian newspaper has reported that a disagreement has arisen between the All England Club and the Health and Safety Executive (“HSE”) after tennis supporters were prevented from watching tennis on the screen on “Murray Mount” on the opening day of Wimbledon.
Some tennis fans were left disappointed when they were unable to watch Andy Murray play his first round match against Daniel Gimeno-Traver on “Murray Mount”.
The All England Club blamed the closure on health and safety concerns but the HSE said there is nothing in health and safety legislation which prohibits the broadcasting of tennis to the spectators on “Murray Mount” during the rain.
The All England Club later said the decision to close “Murray Mount” was reached after a meeting between the event’s safety officer and the police.
