Pitfalls of DIY divorces

21 March 2011

The President of the Law Society, Linda Lee, has recently been quoted in the media as saying "Divorce can be a highly complex issue...it would be difficult for cases to receive a full and thorough analysis without a client having had the benefit of at least one face-to-face meeting with a family law solicitor"

In these post credit-crunch days, and with continued talk of a possible double-dip recession, low-cost websites offering online 'cheap' and 'quickie' divorces can be tempting for people looking to minimise costs.

Provided a divorce is not defended (disputed), the actual paperwork can be relatively simple.  However, complications arise over the division of assets and the living arrangements  for children.  If you are considering a divorce or separation, it is extremely important that you obtain advice at the outset as to what your rights and options are, and what you may and may not be entitled to.
