The courts are embracing new technology

24 March 2011

For the first time a solicitor in Britain has used Facebook to serve a court summons.

The solicitor used the social networking site to serve a summons on a debtor as a last resort, as all conventional means of contacting the debtor had been exhausted.

An application was submitted to the court, showing that the debtor had been using Facebook and why service via this method was appropriate. The court accepted the request and granted permission for service on the debtor.
