The General Medical Council advises that some overseas doctors in the UK need more support

20 September 2011

The BBC News website has reported that the General Medical Council (“GMC”) considers that some overseas doctors arrive in the UK with “little or no preparation” for working for the NHS.

The GMC highlights the importance of overseas doctors in the UK but believes they need more support in order to practise safely.

To assist overseas doctors, the GMC is planning to introduce a basic induction programme, to help the overseas doctors understand how healthcare is practised in the UK.
