Major Overhaul in Divorce Laws

The first major overhaul in UK divorce laws in the last 50 years has been announced so that couples can split faster and, it is hoped, with less acrimony in what is being termed a ‘no fault’ divorce.
Currently, the only way to obtain a divorce without a spouse’s consent is to live apart for five years unless you can prove the marriage has broken down due to adultery, unreasonable behavior or desertion. In future, they will only have to state that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. A ‘no fault’ systems removes a layer of stress and anxiety during, an already, traumatic experience.
Reducing conflict and stress during divorce is the key and these reforms to our current outdated laws is just the starting point to bringing UK divorce laws in to the modern age.
