Before making large scale redundancies there is a duty on employers to consult with its workforce. In a recent employment law case (AEI Cables Ltd v GMB and others) the employer had not provided any consultation period before making redundancies arguing that the company was on the brink of insolvency and so it had to act quickly to save the company.

Tory critics have tabled an amendment to the current bill regarding gay marriage, saying heterosexual couples should be allowed to have civil partnerships, if gay couples are allowed to get married. The Marriage Bill was approved by a 225-vote majority when it was last debated by MPs in February.
