The last year has seen continued success for our commercial dispute team, particularly in complex contract law matters. Much of our work begins with the fundamentals — establishing whether a contract ever existed, and where it does, advising on interpretation, ambiguity, and key contractual terms. As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details.”
Our contract litigation specialists regularly advise on commercial contracts across a wide range of sectors, from construction to IT, and act for both claimants and defendants. Whether through negotiation, settlement, or court proceedings, we are dedicated to securing the best possible outcomes for our clients.
Case Highlights From the Last Year
In Madiston Plc v Emoneyhub, we acted for the Claimant in a case that proceeded to trial. The dispute focused on the specification and interpretation of obligations under a software and licensing agreement. Despite strong opposition, we successfully argued that the contract had been breached. The judge found in favour of our client on the construction of the contract and agreed with our interpretation of the relevant terms.
In another trial matter, this time acting for the Defendants, regarding a claim relating to the interpretation of a commercial lease, we secured a dismissal of the claim and a strong recovery of costs. The case, led by Partner Andrew Petchey and Associate Sophie Kimber, concluded with a highly satisfied client who commented:
“I must say that you both would come highly recommended by me, as your service and attention to detail has been brilliant.”
