overview
Katy is a Partner and heads up our Legal 500 Recommended family team. She is described as “experienced, sensible, hardworking and practice-lead” by the Legal 500.
Katy holds an LLB (Hons) from London University and completed her Solicitors Final Exams at the College of Law in Guildford. She is part of the Family Law Accreditation Scheme, and before joining Howell Jones, she worked with other well-known firms.
Katy is respected for her conciliatory yet firm approach to negotiations. She remains aware of the bigger picture in the best interest of clients.
Katy was Family Lawyer of the Year finalist in the 2021 SLS Legal Awards, a fitting recognition of her excellent contribution to the profession and her technical knowledge.
“Katy was of great help and support throughout my long and very difficult divorce. She gave very safe and practical advice and guidance making the whole process as tolerable as it could possibly be. During times of heightened emotional pressure she responded quickly and empathetically which was really needed and appreciated.” – Client review, via Google.
Katy covers all aspects of divorce and separation. These include financial arrangements (by agreement/consent or contested proceedings), pre- and post-nuptial/registration agreements, cohabitation agreements and cohabitee disputes.
Katy is highly experienced in issues relating to children, such as where they live and who they spend time with. She also deals with more complex child issues, including local and international relocation as well as disputes involving domestic abuse allegations and child welfare issues.
Katy specialises in financial disputes for both low/medium net worth and high net worth individuals alike. She uses her knowledge and experience to advise and assist with the goal of reaching an agreed settlement, but is willing to take the matter to court and fight for a fair outcome for the client.
Katy has achieved notable success in several cases. Here are some examples.
- Helping parents make arrangements for their children due to the parents illness.
- Acting for a wife who left a coercive and controlling husband to navigate proceedings about finances and child arrangements.
- Acting for a husband in relation to matrimonial assets 12 years after divorce and his subsequent remarriage.
- Dealing with divorce after a short marriage and implementation of a pre-nuptial agreement.
When away from the office, Katy enjoys spending time at home and in her garden working on her DIY and green-fingered skills. She also loves socialising with friends, trying new restaurants and visiting new places.
